Welcome to Garage & Garden. This is a gathering, exhibition, discussion, and food-sharing place. We started the space to have fun while developing projects to creatively alter our houses, backyards, and shared public spaces. We are interested in engaging our neighbors in Urbana-Champaign, as well as out-of-town guests on everything from transforming our neighborhoods into places that respect the local land base in relation to food security, resource extraction, transitioning to sustainable energy sources and production, and creating a more imaginative cities and neighborhoods.

First Exhibition | June 8, 2008

Garage and Garden's inaugural exhibition took place as part of the Continental Drift through the Radical Midwest Culture Corridor, a ten day mobile symposium. It included images from the Library focusing on sustainable neighborhood structures, like shared gardens and community networks. The exhibition also included images Urbana Free Box system, an informal exchange system that happens spontaneously in our neighborhood. Many folks came to share homemade food and good conversation.
